Chinese envoy 'notes' Madhesi leaders concerns ahead of Oli's visit

KATHMANDU, March 18: On the eve of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's state visit to China, leaders of Madhes-based parties and others under the Federal Alliance on Friday met Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai.



In the meeting held at Hotel Shangri-La in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, the leaders of the alliance handed over a memorandum urging China to put diplomatic pressure on Nepal for fulfilling their demands regarding the new constitution.

"We have mentioned that a large section of the population has not accepted the new constitution and the government has been suppressing the movements against the new constitution," said Manish Suman, the general secretary of Sadbhavana Party.


"We also said that the prime minister has lied to the international community through his claims that the new constitution has ensured rights of all communities in the country," he added.


Suman claimed that the meeting was a step toward establishing people-to-people relations between Nepal and China by sharing proper information.


According to Suman, Chinese Ambassador Wu Chuntai told Madhesi leaders that he has noted their concerns and reiterated the necessity for an improved people-to-people relations between the two countries.
