In a message to the CPC national convention that is scheduled to see a change in the Chinese leadership, Dahal said, “The results of the general convention of the CPC will leave its impact in China and the entire world. This is why the world is observing it with keen interest,” Dahal has said in his statement. [break]
According to the Beijing-based Media Center, Dahal and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal are among world leaders sending messages to the convention that started Thursday.
Both ruling and opposition parties in Nepal have friendly relations with the CPC that has been running a single-party system in China for the past 63 years.
Dahal said that the CPC had worked to ensure peace, stability and development not only in China but the entire world. “We are proud over the impressive economic growth along with political stability achieved by our immediate neighboring country,” he said.
Likewise, UML Chairman Khanal has mentioned that Chinese assistance was important in bringing about economic development in Nepal. “China has emerged as the second largest economic power under the leadership of the CPC,” Khanal said. “China has successfully established socialism with Chinese characteristics as per the policy adopted by Deng Xiaoping.”
In his inauguration speech in the Great Hall of the People, President Hu Jintao had indicated that the Chinese Communist Party under its younger generation leadership will move ahead politically and with economic reforms in a more pragmatic fashion. The convention scheduled to end on Thursday will elect Xi Jinping as General Secretary, and four months later he will become the president of China.
It is believed that the political as well as economic policies to be adopted by the new leadership of China will have a direct impact on neighboring countries like Nepal. Though Dahal and Khanal, who are deemed close to China, have expressed their solidarity with the economic and political reform agenda indicated by President Hu, they have not openly mentioned Deng Xiaoping.
The CPC had established formal relations with the then CPN (Maoist), which waged its decade-long armed insurgency according to Mao Tse-tung´s guerilla strategy, only after the latter came into mainstream politics. China, under the opening-up policy of Deng Xiaoping, has become the second largest economy in the world in just a matter of about 30 years.
