KATHMANDU, May 14: With the surging heat, the demand for broiler chicken meat has gone down, leading to a drop in prices. The National Chicken Sellers’ Association has announced a revised price list effective from Wednesday.
According to the association, the price of live chicken has been reduced by Rs 10 per kilogram. The new rate stands at Rs 270 per kg, down from the previous Rs 280.

Similarly, the price of processed chicken meat has been adjusted to Rs 380 per kilogram for consumers. Previously, it had reached Rs 395.
According to the National Chicken Sellers’ Association, the price drop is due to decreased consumption during the hot season since current production is sufficient to meet market demand, as chickens raised from the new batch since Chaitra (mid-March) have now entered the market.
The association reports that both hill and Terai regions have seen a decline in chicken meat consumption, with Terai experiencing a sharper drop. Rising temperatures are believed to be the main reason behind this trend.
Similarly, daily chicken meat consumption nationwide currently hovers around 500,000 kilograms - with about 300,000 kilograms consumed in the Kathmandu Valley and 200,000 kilograms in other districts. Previously, total daily consumption across the country was around 550,000 kilograms.
