Chess qualifying postponed by a day

KATHMANDU, March 26: Asian Zonal 3.2 Chess Championship, the qualifying tournament for Chess World Cup 2015, scheduled to begin from Thursday in the capital has been postponed by a day. According to a press release issued by Nepal Chess Association (NCA), the event will begin from Friday due to technical reasons. The event features players from six south Asian countries - Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives -- belonging to 3.2 zone of FIDE, the international chess governing body. The event will be played at Ratna Giri Resort in Kalamasi, Bhaktapur. The winner men's section will earn International Master (IM) and women's winner will earn Women International Master (WIM) title.


SAM and Karya Binayak triumph

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): SAM Foundation and Karya Binayak Club on Wednesday emerged victorious in the Lalitpur Red Bull District League being held at the ANFA Technical Center in Chysal, Lalitpur. SAM beat Norwoling Youth Club 3-1 with two goals from Dhan Kumar Shrestha and one from Aaron Shahi. Gyan Raj Dorje was on target for Norwoling. Similarly, Narottam Dangol netted twice for Karya Binayak in its 2-0 win over Luck Star Club.
