CAN failed to send its proposal on time to the international cricket governing bodies delaying the release of fund from ACC and ICC. CAN Acting General Secretary Uttam Karmachaya said the devastating earthquake of April 25 and the following aftershocks caused the delay.
Karmachaya confirmed to Republica that CAN is to receive Rs 50 million from the international cricket governing bodies. "The April 25 earthquake and aftershocks made it difficult for CAN to send proposals on various titles as well as the complete design of the under construction Mulpani Cricket Ground," Karmacharya said adding ICC has also sought details of damage caused by the earthquake."As per my knowledge CAN was supposed to receive Rs 50 million from the supreme cricket bodies of cricket. But unfortunately we failed to send the proposals and other details on time due to the earthquake," Karmacharya said refuting that ICC and ACC had set any deadline. He also argued that the amount shall be released by the ACC and ICC in near future.
He also admitted that CAN has not yet received any fund for the last quarter of last year. ICC had been providing 84,000 USD for each quarter and has increased the amount since 2015. However, CAN has not been able to grab the opportuny provided by the global cricket governing body due to its own negligence.
Although CAN has been claiming that it is about to receive Rs 50 million, a CAN insider claimed that it might lose Rs 100 million it was supposed to receive from ICC and ACC. According to the source, ICC and ACC have not released as much as Rs 100 million expressing dissatisfaction over the working procedures of CAN.
The ACC has not provided Rs 47.4 million to CAN as Asia Cup grant and ICC is yet to release Rs 40 million as quarterly fund of last year.
Last year, ICC had fined CAN with a hefty sum of $ 84,000 for not submitting financial report of 2012 and 2013 on time.
