CAN Federation develops roadmap to establish Nepal as global IT hub

KATHMANDU, March 4: The Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) has developed a strategic plan with the goal of making the country a global IT hub.


The CAN Federation held a two-day meeting in Hetauda and developed a new roadmap for the next two years to strengthen the country's information technology sector.


The meeting decided to implement special programs while setting the direction for policy reforms in the information technology sector.

During the meeting, President Sunaina Ghimire Pandey outlined a plan to work in various sectors with the goal of making the country a global IT hub. The plan focuses on improving existing policies, developing technology, promoting research, and fostering international collaboration to build a Digital Nepal.


She highlighted that the federation would advance policy initiatives such as the Data Protection Act, E-Governance Blueprint, Ride Sharing Act, Don NP Policy, Industry 4.0, and measures to protect the country from cyber security threats. Additionally, she mentioned promoting Made in Nepal software and services, standardizing ICT, establishing an IT board, and revising the broadband internet tax.


The CAN Federation has announced plans to offer up to five percent equity for foreign investment and to lobby for tax exemptions in the IT industry.


The CAN Federation plans to take concrete steps to make the Nepali IT industry internationally competitive and to promote the digital economy.


During the meeting, outgoing President Ranjit Kumar Podar emphasized the need for policy development to increase the economic contribution of the technology sector. He stressed the importance of prioritizing digital literacy, innovation, policy reforms, and global partnerships.
