Call for commission on religion

KATHMANDU, March 21: People of religious sector have demanded for the formation of a commission on religion in the new constitution to preserve the rights of all religions.



Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Sunday, they said an independent commission on religion was necessary to maintain religious tolerance and goodwill among all religions. [break]



Human rights activist Charan Prasai said such commission was needed to monitor the activities of all religions and regulate the anti-religious activities being practiced in the name of religions.



Likewise, Chairman of World Hindu Federation Damodar Gautam said followers of a religion should exhibit the sense of respect to other religions to maintain religious unity in the country.



Naman Upadhyay of the Jain Community said that the State should regulate the religious activities in the country as the religions and religious activities of religions lay some effects in nation´s entire cultures.
