Café De Flore, a drama in dance form, was showcased at 25 Hours, Tangalwood, Tangal from Friday till Sunday. The soulful play was directed, written and choreographed by Alize Biannic.
The play was quite different and unique due to the mix of various scenes — from abstract dialogues, to monologues and to the dance. “Some audience might not be familiar with these types of plays because of the lack of narration in them. But it is certainly a unique experience,” said Biannic.
Welcoming wellness
Sandeep Shrestha, one of the actors in the play, admired Biannic’s work and said that it was an opportunity to work with the director. “Though initially I struggled to come to points with the unique concept, it has been a fun experience. Biannic made it absolutely easy for us to adapt with our respective characters,” said Shrestha.
The play dwelled in the timeline of 1950-1960s and was set in a French Café. It depicted the lifestyle of French people during that time. The play had eight artists, four men and four women, where they used flattery, humiliation, bitching and exhibitionism to find a simple moment of communication.
The play transcended from comedy to drama where the movements were often frantic and repetitive; and themes of manipulation as well as dependence were used throughout the dance moves and dialogues.
