NRB´s ´clean note´ drive
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has instructed all financial institutions to collect all deformed notes, including those bearing the images of former kings of Nepal and deposit them to the central bank by the end of March 14.
Issuing a circular on Thursday, the central bank also urged the financial institutions to bundle those notes separately before depositing them at NRB. As per the Clean Note Policy, the central monetary authority had earlier directed the financial institutions not to put more than one stitch while making bundles with 100 notes each.
According to an NRB source, around Rs 60 billion of the Rs 151 billion bank notes that are currently in circulation bear images of former kings.
