Budget talks with parties positive: Dahal tells prez

KATHMANDU, July 8: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal called on President Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday to discuss ways for introducing new budget against the backdrop of strong opposition by parties.



Chairman of the ruling party, Dahal, said he briefed the head of state that the political parties were discussing ways to bring the annual budget through consensus and that talks were positive so far.[break]



"The president enquired about the initiatives taken toward introducing new budget and I informed him that positive negotiations are underway and that the leaders will reach consensus on the matter soon," Dahal informed reporters after the meeting.



When asked whether the government will bring a full-fledged budget or one-third of the estimates, Dahal quipped, "Discussions are underway for bringing the budget through consensus."



"The chairman also informed the president that he is taking initiatives from personal level and the environment has become conducive in recent days," said Dahal´s secretariat.



Nepali Congress and CPN-UML among other opposition parties, have strongly opposed the government plan to introduce new budget. Stating that the government´s status has become a caretaker´s following the announcement of new elections, the opposition parties have said the present coalition cannot bring new policy and programs and a new budget.



Following the dissolution of CA, the government has announced fresh CA election for November 22.
