KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the political parties are positive about the local elections announced by the government.

Talking to journalists after the all party meeting held in New Baneshwar today, PM Dahal said that the government will try to seek a middle way solution toward the grievances shown by the Madhesi Morcha on the constitution amendment bill.

The elections will be held on the stipulated date as the government has already announced the date, said PM.

Speaking on the occasion, UML Chief Whiff Bhanu Bhakta Dahal said that all the nine opposition parties including CPN-UML have welcomed the election date announced by the government.

He further said that the government should not change its decision on the local elections.

Political parties can seek a middle way solution to address concerns shown by the Madhesi Morcha, he added, ruling out the constitution amendment.

Speaking in the meeting, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Kamal Thapa said that it would be counter-productive if the government went for elections without addressing the demands of the Madhesi Morcha.

In the all party meeting, Prime Minister Dahal had sought the political parties’ views on election, constitution amendment and the report of the Local Level Restructuring Commission.

Even though the opposition parties were positive about the elections, they were vehemently against the constitution amendment bill.

Opposition parties and ruling coalition except UDMF were present in the all party meeting convened by the Prime Minister.

The government has set May 14 as the date for holding local elections.
