KATHMANDU, May 12: The 2569th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha- Buddha Jayanti- is being observed across the country by commemorating his contributions to the establishment of world peace. The government has declared a public holiday across the country on the occasion of the day.
Buddha, regarded as the ninth incarnation of Lord Bishnu, was born on Shukla Purnima of Baisakh month in the lunar calendar. There is a huge coincidence that the Buddha got birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvan (passing away) on the same day. The Buddhist communities in the world including Nepal observe the Day with much reverence.
