KATHMANDU, June 3: The Bluebird International Clinic at the Bluebird Mall, Tripureshwar is starting bone densitometry for the first time in Nepal.

Organizing a press conference Wednesday, the institute said that it has already bought a Lunar DXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) machine from America, which will arrive here within the next seven days.

The machine measures bone density using an enhanced form of x-ray to detect bone loss and will prove especially effective for diagnosing osteoporosis--a disease that causes weakening of bones mostly in women after menopause.

The clinic claimed that Nepali patients are forced to visit Delhi, Mumbai and Bangkok for bone-density scanning for lack of the facility here.
