Blind persons reeling under lack of treatment

KAKADVITTA (Jhapa), July 12: Amar Bahadur Rai, 67, of Mechinagar-10 in Jhapa district, who has become blind after tumor developed in his both eyes three years ago, has been reeling for lack of treatment.



Rai has become completely blind for the past three years when he had been receiving minor treatment after he had problem in the eyes for the first time in 2037 BS.[break]



Rai said that he could not get right treatment due to financial crisis though he had visited Kathmandu, Biratnagar and Siliguri of India for treatment.



Rai, who is alone and has been taking shelter in a church near Kalikhola in Kakadvitta, said it would cost Rs. 200,000 for the treatment of one eye in Kathmandu.



Rai with tearful eyes said "I want to see the world again, I will get treatment if you provide financial support".



It is said that it would cost Rs. 400,000 for the treatment of both of his eyes.



He complained that the government has still not provided a red card to him even if he is blind and has no relatives to take care of him.
