Bid to avert flood in Jhapa

JHAPA, Aug 15: A team of specialists reached Ilam on Saturday afternoon to avert the possible threat of floods in Jhapa after a landslide in Chapeti hill blocked Siduwa and Ratuwa rivers.



Acting on the suggestion of Hirananda Jha, Basistha Raj Adhikari and Kamal Dev Subedi of the Water Induced Disaster Control Office, Kathmandu, efforts are on to divert the course of river.



"Work has already started to clear the blockade," said Inspector at the Area Police Office, Damak, Navin Karki, adding, "The threat has been reduced now." Following the landslide, more than 200 houses including the ones in the Bhutanese Refugee Camp were exposed to the risk of flood.
