KATHMANDU, June 28: Three weeks after they were expelled from the mother party, former leaders and cadres of Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) on Thursday announced a new party, named National Madhes Socialist Party (NMSP) under the chairmanship of Sharat Singh Bhandari.

The leaders announced the new party amid a press meet at Rastriya Sabha Griha in the capital following a two-day national gathering. "For the first time ever, a political party of the cadres has been formed," said Bhandari addressing the press meet. [break]

The party also unveiled a 16-member ad hoc central committee (CC) comprising Pramod Gupta, Nilam Barma, Ramananda Mandal, Kaushal Yadav, Om Praksh Yadav, Jaya Prakash Yadav, Jipachhi Chaudhari, Amrita Agrahari, Laxman Mahato, Sewaki Devi Tatma, Yousuf Safi, Paras Sah, Sashikanta Mishra and Ajay Shahi.

According to Bhandari, the party has also decided to form a 61-member central committee with 33 percent seats reserved for women and 20 percent seats for indigenous, Muslim and Dalit among other marginalized communities.

Asked when the central committee of the new party would take a full shape, Bhandari said, "We will expand our CC every soon." He said cadres would pick leaders for districts and municipal committees. Bhandari said they decided to take a separate path after MPRF-D “deviated from its own policy”.

He maintained that the new party would fight for the cause of Madhesi, Muslim, Dalit, women and other backward communities. "If we don´t get our rights, we will achieve it by launching a struggle," added Bhandari.

He said there can be no inclusiveness until representation of Madhesi, indigenous, Muslim, Dalit and other marginalized communities are ensured in all the state mechanisms.

The leaders also unveiled the statute and flag of the newly formed party. The party flag has an image of half-rising sun in green and white background. "The green part of the flag symbolizes fertile lands of Madhes and the white stands for hilly region," Bhandari explained.

He also said that the foreign policy of the party would be formulated in line with the foreign policy of the country. He, however, said that the party would have special relations with India.

Around 3,000 leaders and cadres from 25 districts had participated in the national gathering.
