Awareness drive against mushroom consumption in Chitwan

CHITWAN, June 26: A public awareness raising programme has been launched on a campaign footing at local Kabilas VDC following the death last week of five members of a single family there after consuming poisonous mushroom.



This awareness campaign will be conducted at all the wards of the VDC, said Pradyumna Kumar Khadka, Secretary of the Kabilas VDC.[break]



The awareness campaign against poisonous mushroom has been conducted with the cooperation of the European Union and the Kabilas VDC.



People of the Chepang community from Gorkha, Dhading, Makwanpur, Tanahun, Lamjung and Chitwan districts are participating in the campaign.



Under the programme, the general public is made aware about the hazards of consuming poisonous mushroom. They have been advised not to consume wild mushrooms as far as possible and even if they have to consume it to do so only after verifying that the mushroom is safe.
