DANG, Oct 23: The construction of an artificial dam in Rani Community Forest in Tulsipur Sub Metropolitan City 18, Dang, has improved irrigation access for local farmers, bringing water to land that previously depended on rainfall.
The land, once known for its dry conditions, now receives irrigation water following the construction of the dam by the Greater Dang Valley Irrigation Project.
Irrigation has reached the Hemantapur area, while efforts are underway to extend the facility to around 200 bighas of farmland in Dhankhanne, Sanodamar and Daudare, said Govinda Nepali, chair of the local dam conservation committee.

According to Nepali, the dam has improved not only irrigation but also water availability in nearby wells and traditional water sources.
Wells that used to dry up by March now retain water throughout the year as ponds and water bodies help recharge groundwater, said Madhav Wali, ward chair of Tulsipur Sub Metropolitan City 18.
Farmland that once remained dry due to a lack of irrigation has become greener, he said.
According to Wali, the area has also been designated for agriculture through land use classification, rather than for residential or industrial development. He said the artificial dam and ponds have helped conserve water resources and the natural environment while supporting agricultural development.
The dam also has a boat that generates income through its operation.
