Armed outfit surrenders arms to join peaceful politics

BIRGANJ, March 31: The Janatantrik Tarai Madhesh Mukti Morcha, an armed outfit active in the Tarai, has surrendered its arms after deciding to join peaceful politics through participation in the coming Constituent Assembly election.



The outfit had been holding talks with the government. Manoj Mandal aka Subhash, coordinator of outfit´s talks team, informed that his party had decided to surrender arms and join peaceful politics. [break]



The armed outfit handed over arms and ammunitions in its possession to the District Administration Office, Parsa on Sunday.



According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Pitambar Adhikari, the members of the outfit turned in four country-made guns, one automatic pistol, five kg of explosives as well as five bullets to the Chief District Officer Beni Madhav Adhikari. Mandal also informed that they have decided to renounce violence as per the agreement reached with the government in Lumbini last month.



In the course of dialogue, the armed outfit had disclosed that it possessed various kinds of 278 guns. The party has already handed over 95 guns in six districts so far.



Bara and Parsa district coordinator of the outfit, Pralhad Mahara informed that they would handover 16 more guns to the District Administration Office, Parsa on Monday.



“Now we are preparing to join peaceful politics and participate in the coming elections,” said Mandal.
