Anti-typhoid vaccine campaign in capital

KATHMANDU, July 12: The Ministry of Health and Population is to launch a vaccination campaign against typhoid fever in Kathmandu district in the near future.



According to Child Health Division under the Ministry, the Ministry has already geared for internal preparations for the anti-typhoid vaccination campaign.[break]



Information about this was given out at a press meet organized by the Division here today.



The Ministry has decided to launch the campaign in Kathmandu also, following positive outcome of the previous campaigns launched in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts, said Division Chief Dr Shyamraj Upreti.



Typhoid, one of the most common diseases on children under 15, is caused by Salmonella typhosa virus. Consumption of polluted water is the main cause of typhoid fever.



According to Dr Upreti, Kathmandu is a high-risk zone in view of the typhoid fever.
