Anti-craft case filed against 100 timber smugglers

KATHMANDU, Sept. 16: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has registered an anti-graft case on the charge of illegally felling trees in Dadeldhura with support from forest employees and office-bearers of community forest.



The anti-graft body has filed corruption case against 185 people including the then regional director at Far-western Regional Forest Directorate, 11 employees of its subordinate offices, office-bearers of 108 community forests and Rauleswor community forest users group and timber entrepreneurs.[break]



The CIAA´s Spokesperson Iswori Prasad Poudel has said that the state has to incur a huge amount of Rs 431.01 million with the road-felling drive claiming fine of the same amount.



He told RSS that the convicts had cut down and smuggled a total of 627,766 cube feet timber.
