KATHMANDU, April 26: Asia Journalist Association (AJA) on Tuesday expressed serious concern about situation in Syria and Yemen while expressing solidarity with people.

Urging Syrian government to resolve the situation peacefully immediately halting the indiscriminate firing and violent crackdown on protesters, AJA president Ivan Lim said that sacrifices made by protesters will bring forward democratization.[break]

“All the members of AJA fully support Syrian people who demand the democracy,” the press release added stating that there had been more than 120 deaths already in Syria.

AJA also welcomed the decision of Ali Abdullah Saleh, the president of Yemen, to step down and urged to deliver his promise despite having a history of reversing his decisions. “We urge him to deliver on his promise and to step down gracefully,” Lim further said.

AJA also praised journalists covering situation in the Middle East for their reporting despite dangers.

AJA has national chapters in 27 Asian nations including Nepal.
