BANGKOK, June 13: An Air India flight en route from Phuket, Thailand to New Delhi, India had to make an emergency landing on Friday after a bomb threat was reported during the journey, according to Thai airport authorities.

The plane had departed Phuket International Airport at 9:30 a.m. local time (0230 GMT), but shortly after takeoff, it circled over the Andaman Sea and returned to Phuket, as shown by the flight tracking service Flightradar24.
This scare comes a day after an Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which occurred shortly after takeoff and resulted in over 240 fatalities.
While the exact nature of Friday’s bomb threat has not been disclosed, Air India has yet to issue a statement. Indian aviation authorities have been dealing with a surge in bomb hoaxes, receiving nearly 1,000 fake threats within the first ten months of the previous year—almost ten times the number recorded in 2022.
