The meeting has stated that importing the paddy worth 14 billion rupees, maize worth five billion rupees, pulses of four billion rupees, meat products of 1.87 billion rupees and dairy products of 760 million rupees annually in an agricultural country like Nepal was a matter of shame and such tendency should be lessened by increasing the productivity.
Similarly, secretary at the Ministry of Agricultural Development Uttam Kumar Bhattarai said that increasing the productivity and lessening the agricultural trade deficit was challenging to the ministry, however, it was making maximum efforts in this connection.
He added that the Ministry has kept the efforts of managing the fertilizers, seeds and irrigation facility in its utmost priority.
The Ministry was working to developing the agricultural perspective policy, national agriculture policy as a high priority. Similarly, the Ministry has prioritized to develop different 15 districts as Agriculture Zone to develop them for the commercial production of crops and animal product as per the geographical location and climate.
The Ministry has proposed the estimated budget of Rs 38 billion for the coming fiscal year.RSS
