KATHMANDU, June 8: When help has been pouring in from all parts of the nation for the earthquake victims, Night band sought to do its part by organizing a fundraising concert. The benefit concert was conducted in collaboration with Theatre Village 'to provide educational support to the children at risk of dropping out of school as a result of the Gorkha earthquake'.

Featuring 10 songs from their album 'Ani Ukali, Sangai Orali', Night performed to a houseful of patient audience. The event was divided in three segments; in the first part, they performed five of their songs. In the second part, the members of Word Warriors—a poetry slam group—kept the audience engaged in their spoken word. Night band collaborated to a couple of poems, adding more charm to the performances, after which they played the rest of the numbers.Speaking before the show, Night's vocalist and flutist, Jason Kunwar remarked on the fact that collaboration with Theatre village had always been in works, but the tragic April 25 earthquake and the aftershocks then rushed them into organizing this benefit concert.

"Whatever amount we collect today will go for the education of children whose hope for further studies have been interrupted by the earthquakes," he said. They have pledged to provide scholarship to at least 10 such students till they complete their higher secondary education.

Jeebesh Rayamajhi of Theatre Village said that they have been looking for the students who are immediately in need of educational attention in districts like Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha and Dhading. He further added that the collaborators might do more concerts for the sake of the victims. "A few schools have shown interest in this venture and have agreed to arrange for a 50% scholarship to the students," he said.

Rayamajhi also said that Theatre Village will resume its normal shows from Friday (June 12) onwards. The first show after the earthquake will be 'Singhadurbarko tender' directed by Dilip Ranabhat.
