A clash between agitators and security personnel had ensued in Jaleshwar, district headquarters of Mahottari, after the former staged demonstrations in defiance of curfew orders. Police lobbed over 40 teargas shells and fired 10 rounds in the air to bring the situation under control.
The cop killed by agitators has been identified as Thaman Bahadur Bishwakarma. The deceased agitators have been identified as Ramshila Thakur, 35, of Hatilet VDC, and Ganesh Chaudhary, 60, of Jaleshwar Municipality.
Thakur received bullet injuries to the head and she had already breathed her last before being rushed to Jaleshwar Hospital, according to Dr Rajib Jha. Thakur was said to be a local leader of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal. Chaudhary, the other deceased, was the grandfather of Rohan Chaudhary, who was killed in police firing during Wednesday's protests.
Another woman, Shaili Devi Chaudhary, was also shot in police firing during a clash with agitators. Her condition is critical, according to doctors.
Meanwhile, doctors at Norvic Hospital in the capital have declared Birendra Bichchha of Jaleshwar dead. Bichchha had received a bullet in the head and was airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment, Wednesday.
With the three deaths on Friday, the total death toll in the Jaleshwar protests has reached six since Wednesday.
Meanwhile in Dhanusha, three protestors were killed in police firing in Janakpur during demonstrations on Friday. The police had fired at the protestors for defying curfew and prohibitory orders.
Dilip Poudel of Sinurajoda died on the spot at Piradi Chowk while Nitu Yadav of Jamuniya and Sanjay Chaudhari were pronounced dead at Janakpur Zonal Hospital. Chaudhary was district secretary of the Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party.
According to the hospital superintendent, Dr Sanjay Thakur, Poudel and Yadav had sustained bullet injuries to the head whereas Chaudhari had been shot in the chest.
Fifty three others, including Parameshwar Shah, Jitendra Pandit, Biltu Mandal, Balmukunda Shah, Krishna Mandal and Jaya Prakash Yadav, were injured during the protests. Most of them have sustained head injuries as well as injuries to the chest and arms, according to the hospital.
Protestors had tried to enter the restricted areas at Kapileshwar, Piradi Chowk, Bajrang Chowk, Jiromaikal, Murali Chowk and Hanuman Nagar in Janakpur throughout the day.
