36 pigs died due to African swine fever in Barahakshetra

INARUWA (SUNSARI), May 20: In Barahakshetra Municipality, African swine fever has killed 36 pigs.


Dr  Manoj Kumar Mahato, Chief of the Veterinary Hospital and Animal Service Expert Center in Inaruwa, said the infection has spread among pigs that were raised commercially by locals.

At Diyali Agricultural Farm in Barahakshetra-1, the disease infected 20 pigs and killed 17. Similarly, it infected 15 pigs and killed 7 at the Barah Pig Farm.


Dr  Mahato added that the infection affected 22 pigs and killed 12 at a farm owned by local resident Subas Shrestha.


He stated that so far, the fever has killed 36 pigs and infected 57 more in Barahakshetra alone. Earlier, the infection had spread in Duhabi, Ramdhuni, and Dharan in Sunsari district.
