KATHMANDU, Jan 22: At least 19 people have submitted applications for the post of chairman-cum-chief executive and board members of soon-to-be formed Public Enterprises (PE) Management Board -- a semi-autonomous umbrella body to regulate and oversee management of all state-owned enterprises.

The government, however, did not give details on how many had applied for the post of chief and how many for the post of board members of the management board.[break]

Earlier, the government had formed a five-member committee and assigned it to select names for the top positions in the Board. The committee headed by Dr Kayo Devi Yami, acting chief of Public Service Commission (PSC), comprises of chief secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Tika Datta Niraula - member of the PSC, and Bharat Bahadur Thapa - former industries secretary, as members. Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Banskota is the member-secretary in the committee.

The committee will now interview all the candidates and forward names of three best candidates for the post of chief of the PE Management Board to the government for final approval. The committee will also forward names of best candidates who have applied for four posts of board members to the government for approval.

The committee, however, is not sure about time it will take to finalize the list of candidates that will be sent to the government.
