KATHMANDU, July 17: The UCPN (Maoist)´s seventh plenum has kicked off at Bhrikutimandap in the capital on Tuesday morning, with party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurating the five-day meet to be participated by some 5,000 representatives from across the country.

The plenary meet was originally scheduled for Monday but had to be postponed for today as several party cadres, who were on their way to the capital to attend the event, were caught in separate road accidents, with at least three of them being killed and many others injured. [break]

Addressing the inaugural session, Dahal announced to put an end to groupism in the party. "No groupism in any form will be tolerated in the party," he said.

The plenum will deliberate over and endorse the party chairman´s political paper, which has analyzed the present political scenario and proposed a future political course.

The plenum is taking place for the first time after the party suffered a vertical split last month, with the hardline faction led by the then Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya breaking away and opening a new party named CPN-Maoist.

The UCPN (Maoist), which has not convened its general convention for the last 22 years, held its last plenum at Palungtar, Gorkha in 2010. The Palungtar plenum endorsed the party´s political line of revolt as proposed by the Baidya faction.
