KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Monty Desai, the head coach of the Nepal national cricket team, has said that he will always remember the two unforgettable years spent in Nepal. He is parting ways after the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) decided not to renew his contract.
Taking to his social media, Desai expressed that this is not a farewell, but a ‘heartfelt thank you.’ On January 10, 2023, the CAN entrusted Desai with the responsibility.
He has taken the time spent in Nepal as an opportunity to make a lasting impact on Nepal cricket with excitement and purpose. He recalled, "These two years have been filled with unforgettable moments, such as the sight of fans climbing trees to watch the Asia Cup qualifiers at the Tribhuvan University ground and the enthusiasm of the crowd at the World Cup qualifiers in Mulpani."
He recalled moments such as spectators sitting under umbrellas to watch the Asia Cup qualifiers at the Tribhuvan Cricket Ground and the decisive match during the T20 World Cup qualifiers in Mulpani.
In his farewell post, Desai addressed the team, saying, "Players, you carry the dreams of millions. Stay on the field and embrace a one-ball warrior mentality."
He further told the fans, "Your unwavering support has been our greatest strength."
Desai also expressed his emotional connection to Nepal, calling it his second home.
