Two arrested for illegal transport of wood

UDAYAPUR, Feb 12: Police have arrested two people for illegally transporting wood. The vehicle and wood are also under control of the police.

Police impounded the vehicle SA 1 TA 2114, carrying four logs, being brought from unknown destination, about six kilometers away from district headquarters Gaighat on Wednesday night.  

According to District Police Office, Udayapur, the arrested ones are locals- Dipendra Chaudhari, 31 from Trinapa-8 and Milan Thapa from the same locality. Spokesperson of the police office DSP Om Bahadur Rana Magar said that the arrested driver and conductor have admitted transporting the wood illegally.

Police have sent the two along with the tractor and recovered wood to the District Forest Office for further investigation and punishment.

DSP Magar informed that each log was around 80 cubit feet. He even added that they have started patrolling in border areas in suspicion of more people being engaged in illegal trade of woods taking advantage of the volatile political situation.

Police said that they are planning to come up with a plan in coordination with the forest office at the earliest.
