Top Vatican official overseeing evangelizing activities visiting Nepal

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: At a time when secularism remains one of the hotly debated issues in the soon-to-be promulgated new constitution, a top Vatican official overseeing the Catholic Church's evangelizing and missionary activities worldwide is set to visit Nepal.

According to Vatican Radio online, Cardinal Fernando Filoni is arriving in Nepal as part of his 10-day visit to three South Asian nations beginning Wednesday. He is scheduled to arrive in Nepal on September 15 and stay in Nepal before flying to Rome on September 19.Prior to this visit to Nepal, Filoni will visit Bangladesh from September 9-13, where he will visit Dhaka Archdiocese and Rajshahi Diocese. He will then fly to Kolkata City in West Bengal state, where he will visit various places in the Archdiocese of Calcutta for two days.

In and around Kathmandu, Cardinal Filoni will meet with caritas and several men and women's religious communities who are engaged especially in rehabilitation and reconstruction work following the devastating April 25 earthquake and its aftershocks, according to news posted on the Vatican Radio's website. He will also meet government officials and hold an ecumenical meeting.
