KATHMANDU, April 11: Team Red defeated Team Blue by one run in the 63-over Phillip Hughes Memorial Tribute Match on Saturday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.

Losing the toss and batting first, Team Red set a 163-run target with Sharad Veswakar's 52 runs. In reply, Team Blue was bundled up at 162 despite Mahesh Chettri's 52. With 158/5, Team Blue looked at more convincing position for the win before losing some quick wickets in the end of the innings.

The 63-over match was held to pay tribute to late Australian Cricketer Philip Hughes, who died late last year after being struck by a bouncer during a domestic cricket match in Australia.Former Skipper Binod Das quits Cricket

Former national cricket team skipper Binod Das, who spent 15 years playing cricket for Nepal, retired from all formats of cricket after playing the Phillip Hughes Memorial Tribute Match today.

"The tribute match will be my last match as a player," said Das, who will be the skipper of Team Blue in a press conference on Tuesday.

Born on April 26, 1983 in Kaliaya, Das spent most of his time playing the ´gentlemen´s game´ and won his first international cap during the ACC U-19 Trophy held in Malaysia in 1997 and had played his last match against United States in the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 held in Malaysia in 2012.

Das made his debut for the national team in 2000 against UAE in the ACC Trophy at Sharjha. He played 68 matches of 50-overs and bowled 434 overs conceding 1549 runs at the economy rate of 3.56. He took five wickets against Myanmar giving away only eight runs. Das claimed 76 wickets at the average of 20.38 in the 50-overs match.

He replaced Raju Khadka in 2005 to become the skipper of the national team.
