School children collect beans for quake

JUMLA, May 8: With relief material collection and distribution underway in various quarters, school children in Jumla district have also joined the efforts to help quake victims.

Tenth graders of Nepal Rastriya Secondary School, Malikawota are collecting relief in cash and kind for distribution to the victims.

"We small children have collected beans with a view to supporting quake-affected children," said Phaguni Rawat, a 10th grader.So far, over 450 students of grades 2 to 10 at the school have contributed beans. A total of five quintals of beans has been collected in door to door visits, and it has all been sold, according to Phaguni.

Sale of the beans has brought in a total of Rs. 45,000, she informed.

Likewise, teachers at the school have contributed Rs 5,000 each, while office assistant Aaite Budha and watchman Jayaram Rawat have chipped in with Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively from their monthly salaries.

The school children have deposited Rs. 125,000 in the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Jumla, Dipendra Raj Poudel, have thanked the school children and their teachers for their exemplary contribution.
