KATHMANDU, March 7: A tipper accident in Sankhu, Kathmandu, early this morning killed three people who were sleeping inside a shelter.
At around 3:40 AM, a tipper (Ba 2 Ka 6580) lost control and crashed into a zinc-roofed shelter built by the Conflict Victims and Disabled Society and operated by Yuvraj Thapa. The accident occurred along the Sankhu-Brahmakhel road section in Shankharapur Municipality-6, Sankhu Salambutar.
The shelter housed 61 people, and 10 individuals were asleep in the room when the tipper struck, according to Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range. The crash critically injured 21-year-old Akash, 21-year-old Suman, and 45-year-old Harijan. Rescuers rushed them to Nepal Medical College in Attarkhel, but they died during treatment.
Police have taken the tipper driver, 25-year-old Sagar Majhi from Melamchi, Sindhupalchowk, under custody at the Bouddha Police Circle.
