KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Nepali rupee lost 1 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, lost value against the greenback. Meanwhile, gold price increased by Rs 860 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 103.94.
Rupee gained 6 paisa on Monday to settle at 103.88 against US dollar. However, rupee lost 17 paisa on Tuesday to close at 104.05 against the greenback. The local currency weakened by another 43 paisa against the greenback to close at 104.48 on Wednesday. However, rupee rallied on Thursday, gaining 8 paisa on Thursday to settle at 104.40 against US dollar. Rupee gained another 45 paisa against US dollar on Friday to close the week's trading at 103.95.
Similarly, rupee lost Rs 1.17 against euro and Rs 1.18 against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 118.95 on Friday, while the British Pound was valued Rs 160.97.
BULLION
Gold price increased by Rs 860 per 10 grams this week. Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association had opened bullion trading on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 43, 295 per 10 grams.
Price of gold increased by Rs 85 per 10 grams to Rs 43,380 on Monday. Though gold price remained unchanged on Tuesday, price of the yellow metal went up by Rs 690 per 10 grams on Wednesday to Rs 44,070. On Thursday, price of gold increased by another Rs 170 per 10 grams to Rs 44,240. However, gold price came down by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 44,155.
Meanwhile, silver price increased by Rs 8.5 per 10 grams over the week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 621.5 per 10 grams.
