According to Rabin Man Shrestha, chief at the Environment Management Division of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), the new toilet will have the best facility to address the concerns of male, female and even the differently abled visitors."This toilet will be one of its kind. Space will not be a problem, people will have running water available twenty-four-seven and, above all, even differently abled people will have the comfort of using the toilet cabins," explained Shrestha.
In addition to those facilities, the toilet will have rainwater harvesting system for water supply. The toilet will have stands where parents can hold and change their children's diapers and a slot machine for purchasing sanitary pads.
"We are still working to install more innovative facilities," said Shrestha.
The public toilet is being constructed under the joint effort of UNICEF Nepal and the KMC. As per the preliminary deal, a fund of US $ 6,000 will come from UNICEF and the remaining expenses will be covered by the KMC. It has been estimated that the total expenditure of the KMC would be around Rs 1.5 million.
Despite a substantial renovation of the park, people have been using the worn out toilet. Lack of space and running water has always been the major problem, which this new toilet promises to address.
"The old toilet will be dismantled and a new one will replace it. The toilet will extend to 400 square feet of area. Hygiene will be maintained at any cost," said Shrestha.
Shrestha further shared that the construction will commence after the festival of Dashain.
"People will have to wait for at least 3-4 months for the new toilet. We are sure it will offer a huge relief to the park visitors," said Shrestha.
