Nepal loses to Namibia by 6 wickets

KATHMANDU, March 9: Namibia defeated Nepal by six wickets in the first match of the Women's Day Cup T20I cricket tournament, which began in Uganda on Saturday.

Nepal set a target of 93 runs, and Namibia reached 39 runs for the loss of one wicket in eight overs before rain interrupted the match.

After the game resumed, officials revised Namibia’s target to 71 runs in 15 overs. Namibia chased it down with one ball to spare, losing four wickets along the way.

Mekelaye Mwatile led Namibia’s batting with 26 runs, while Jurriene Araasta Diergaardt remained unbeaten on 13. Nepal's Puja Mahato, Kabita Joshi, Ishwari Bista, and Indu Berma each claimed one wicket.

Earlier, Nepal won the toss, chose to bat first, and got bowled out for 92 runs in 20 overs. Samjhana Khadka scored 18, Kabita Joshi 16, Puja Mahato 13, and Ishwari Bista remained unbeaten on 17.

Namibia’s Wilka Matti and Mekelaye Mwatile dominated with the ball, each taking three wickets. Kelan Green picked up two wickets, while Araasta Diergaardt claimed one.
