Monsoon-induced landslide hits northern Gorkha

GORKHA, June 27: The monsoon-induced landslide has hit northern part of Gorkha, leaving scores panic-stricken on Saturday.

With the incessant rain since Friday evening , the landslides have been occurring in Kerauja, Kasigaun, Gumda.


According to local Sachin Gurung, Budhigandaki River had been blocked near Khanibesi for about an hour due to landslides yesterday evening.

The locals have moved to higher lands for safety due to fear that the river would get blocked again.

The landslides have buried over 20 temporary huts, Sundarbabu Khanal, header-master at Kerauja High School, told Republica over telephone.

A squad of the Nepal Army who had been deployed to the northern Gorkha for road maintenance has rescued locals. DSP Arjun Chand said as many as 50 families have abandoned their temporary huts for the fear of landslides.
