Family members of the victim have claimed that the six-year-old girl was raped by Wakil Pandit Kumhal, 25, of Ghoghariya in Balirampur VDC-2.[break]
According to police, Kumhal caught the girl while she was returning home after attending a religious ceremony in the village itself at around 8 pm and took her to a nearby bamboo shrub.
After the girl narrated the incident to her family members, locals took the accused under the control and handed him over to the police on Friday morning.
A police inspector at Bara District Police Office (DPO) said both the victim and the accused have been sent to a Kalaiya hospital for medical check up. We will be able to say whether or not the girl was raped only after the medical check up, said the inspector.
The condition of the girl is reported to be normal.
Meanwhile, Bara District Court sent the accused to seven-day judicial on Friday itself.
Cases of sexual violence against girls and women in the district are increasing at an alarming rate. Five minors have been raped in the village itself over the past seven months.
Police Inspector Keshar Bahadur Karki, who looks after Women and Children Service Center at Bara DPO, said the practice of hiding cases fearing social taboos was one of the reasons behind increasing incidents of rapes and sexual violence against women and children.
