KATHMANDU, March 4: A 500 mm Melamchi water supply pipe burst near Thapathali Chowk in Kathmandu. Early on Tuesday morning, the burst pipe caused the auxiliary road to the east of Thapathali Chowk to submerge in water for a while.
The pipeline burst at the turning point from Thapathali Chowk towards Norvic Hospital.
The high-pressure water gushing out after the burst has damaged the road and the sidewalk. Mud and scattered gravel have spread across the road.
Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) said that they have stopped the water supply at the burst location. However, the road remains blocked.
Earlier, the main pipe burst in the Baber Mahal area of the Maitighar-Baneshwor road section. The 500mm pipe burst, damaging the main road.
The Nepal Electricity Authority's equipment, used for digging holes to lay underground cables, damaged the pipe, causing the burst.
