Minister Paswan remains quite busy in her ministry. Dozens of cadres come and meet her everyday. Unfortunately, she can only listen and respond verbally. She cannot keep a written record of their concerns. [break]
When asked how she carried out ministerial functions that need professional as well as academic expertise, she explained, “My personal secretaries and government officials help me to carry out such activities. They look after all the affairs.” But how does she sign the documents that need her seal? “I can sign the documents only after putting huge efforts. I cannot write my name and addresses accurately,” she divulged.
She admitted that she can only speak Hindi. She listens to Nepali and can understand it but can´t write. She does not utter even a single word in Nepali language. While speaking, she generally uses Hindi language.
Minister Paswan became assistant minister representing Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic) party. “As a minister I am provided with newspapers and necessary books everyday. But I can´t read them. I can only read some big letters printed in the newspapers,” she explained. What about English language? She laughed and replied, “I don´t understand it at all.”
She said that she tried her best to write few words in Nepali but in vain. As a minister she wants to work for the empowerment of Dalit women. “I will do something for the uplift of women from dalit and other backward communities,” she said.
