Nepal Handball Association held its second general assembly on Wednesday after a 17-year hiatus. Tej Gurung was reelected for second tenure as the president of the association. The association has also decided to launch its own website in order to make its activities easily accessible to public.[break]
President Gurung said that Nepali handball team played well in the 11th South Asian Games despite being below par in the south Asian region. "We want to develop the standard of Nepali handball with new players."
The first step that association wants to take is train the coaches in order to generate new players. The association has announced that the training will begin within this month. The coaches training will be followed by referee training.
As the national games is slated later this year, the Handball Association will not hold a separate national handball championship in the senior men´s and women´s category. However, it plans to conduct inter-school handball tournament for boys´ and girls´ category.
Nepal will take part in the 14th South Asian Women´s Handball Tournament and the Third South Asian Men´s Handball Tournament.
The association also announced that Nepal will participate in the first South Asian Beach Handball Tournament.
Gurung further added that association will work to build infrastructure for handball game in Nepal. "We do not have our own land to build covered hall and handball courts, so we will begin with acquiring land."
