The UCPN (Maoist) has described Koirala as the main architect and pillar of the peace process and a towering figure of Nepal´s democratic movement. [break]
Issuing a condolence message, the UCPN-Maoist said that Koirala´s death is an irreparable loss mainly in the context of peace process and constitution writing. “The UCPN (Maoist), as the other main architect of the peace process pays its heartfelt tribute to Koirala and expresses deep condolence to the bereaved family,” the message read.
“Taking the peace process and constitution writing to a logical end and leading the country toward prosperity will be a true tribute to Koirala.”
Similarly, the CPN-UML described Koirala´s role in signing the Comprehensive Peace Accord-2006, drafting the Interim Constitution, holding the Constituent Assembly election and declaring Nepal a republic as “specially-memorable” contributions.
Stating that Koirala´s role would have been instrumental in forging a national consensus and concluding the peace process, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that his absence has created a huge vacuum.
The party has urged everyone to stand united in favor of concluding the peace process and writing the new constitution within the stipulated time and to finish the tasks that are still incomplete.
Issuing separate condolence messages, various political parties including Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, CPN (Unified Marxist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Sadbhawana Party, Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), Nepal Sadbhawana Party and CPN (United) have expressed condolence over the demise of Koirala. They have said that the death of Koirala is a big loss to the country.
The parties also recalled the role played by Koirala in democratic movements in various phases of Nepal´s history during his six-decade long political career. They have also lauded Koirala´s role in the establishment of republican set up in the country. Meanwhile, Nepal Medical Council, Federation of Nepali Journalists, Nepal Bar Association and Nepal Government Employees´ Organization, among others, have also issued separate condolence messages.
