RUKUM, Sept 21: Though the fever of festive season has already gripped the country, many villages in Rukum and Kalikot districts have been reeling under acute food shortages. [break]

Food shortages have affected people of eastern Rukum, especially Taksera, Kol, Maikot, Syalakhedi, Shobha, Jang, Sisne and Gotamkot as a result of low output of crops.

In Kalikot, Dhaulagoha, Khin, Thipu, Ramnakot, Nanikot, Badalkot, Phukot, Phoimmahadev, Rachuli and Chil have been hit hard by the food shortages.

Paima Rokaya (45) of Khin-5 said Dashian is here again, but we have nothing to feed family members.

Former VDC chairman of Nanikot Chandra Bahadur Shahi said the prolonged drought has resulted in food crisis.

The district is also facing shortages of other essential goods following the obstruction of Karnali Highway for a long time.
