Nepal was represented by 10 representatives from the Home Ministry, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry, the Nepal Red Cross Society, Lumanti Organization and from the media.

The conference expressed satisfaction over the notable progress made in the enforcement of the Hugo Framework for Action in 2005 for disaster reduction, and over the national priority given to disaster risk reduction by almost all the countries.

Stress was also laid on all the countries to maintain a database on disasters, increase budget, adopt all necessary measures to minimize disaster and enforce a policy on it.

A five-point child declaration was also approved by the conference aimed at saving the future generation from the risk of disasters.

Extensive deliberations were also held on the increasing risk of nuclear plants, climate change, gender issues in terms of disaster, formulation and enforcement of legislation, education and safe schools, forest fire and involvement of private sector in disaster risk reduction.

At the concluding session of the conference, a prize of 100,000 Euros was also announced to be awarded to the project making significant contribution to disaster risk management, early warning, water-induced disaster reduction etc.

The prize founded jointly by Munich Foundation, Global Risk Forum and UNISDR shall be awarded in every two years.

The Fourth Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Geneva in 2013.
