Speaking at a function in the capital on Saturday, Baidya said, “The news stories carried by the media are unofficial. If the next government is formed, it would be led by the chairman himself.” [break]
Baidya also said that his party would table a no-confidence motion in parliament to topple the government. “We are also mulling a no-confidence motion against the government,” he said.
Maoist vice-chairman Baidya also said that the government had failed to accomplish major tasks, including drafting a new constitution and taking the peace process to its logical end. “As a responsible opposition party, we have opened the door for a consensus government if not that of a majority.”
He warned that the party would launch a mass movement if the constitution is not drafted and peace process derailed. He argued that a Maoist-led government is a must as agenda of federalism, peace process and new constitution were spawned by the Maoists.
“These are the agendas of one party while the government is being led by another party. Hence this contradiction,” he said, adding, “Conclusion of the peace process and promulgation of a constitution are not possible as long as this contradiction remains.”
Baidya, who lead the hard-line camp in the party, also said that the Maoist demand for "national independence" has become more relevant in light of the controversy over Machine Readable Passport (MRP) contract. He said the government decision to award India with the printing of the MRPs grossly violated the “prerogatives of parliament”.
“It is not a minor mistake. It has in fact made our agenda of national independence more relevant.”
