According to Morang Police, the two robberies were masterminded by policeman Gautam Majhi posted at Bhatta Chowk.[break]
Majhi, who was deployed for the security of Ramjanaki Petrol Pump, had been keeping a close eye on the financial transactions of businessman Hitendra Agrawal. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Morang Uma Prasad Chaturbedi, Majhi took a four-day leave from the office to set up a gang comprisng his friends in Aurawani-4 of Sunsari and plot the robberies.
Majhi has conceded that he kept track of Agrawal´s daily income and shared it with his friends to lure them into robbing Agrawal.
A group of dacoits had robbed Agrawal´s house at Shantitole, Biratnagar-6 on September 1. Similarly, after two days another incident of robbery took place at the house of Kulchandra Rijal at Bargachhi, Birtanagar-4.
Police have arrested Nishnarayan Majhi , Indrajeet Yadav and Shrisha Chaudhari of Aurabani, Sunsari and Rajan Kamat of Biratnagar-16 along with Majhi for their involvement in the twin robberies. The robbers had hidden the booty at Shrisha´s house.
Police have recovered laptops, mobile phones, cameras, DVD players, jewelry, a German-made automatic pistol and handmade gun and bullets from the arrested.
Four others, including Bikram Das Chamar of Biratnagar-16, allegedly involved in the robberies have been absconding. “The group was keeping a close eye on police activities and preparing to carry out yet another robbery,” said DSP Chaturbedi.
