KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Poultry entrepreneurs have raised the price of chicken in the capital by Rs 15 per kg, making it Rs 240 per kg effective from Sunday. They have blamed supply deficit amid slowing production in poultry farms behind upward revision in the price.

A joint meeting of National Chicken Sellers Association, Nepal Feed Industries Association, Poultry Farmers Association and Feed Distributors Association held on Sunday decided to raise the price. [break]

They had raised the price to Rs 225 per kg about a month ago.

President of National Chicken Sellers Association Junga Bahadur BC said decline in production and drop in supplies by 20-25 percent prompted them to raise price.

Daily supplies of chicken to the capital hover around 150,000 kg, which is down 20-25 percent as compared to normal daily demand in the valley, according to Narayan Hari Khatri, president of Hatchery Association of Nepal.
