"It´s great to take the SLC on the back of just the send-up test after passing only the eighth grade. We feel that we have succeeded after securing 50% pass results," Dahal added.
Thirty-two of the passed combatants have secured first division, 209 second and 40 third. The school said 27 more have yet to take their practical exams and should also pass SLC after the practicals. Five hundred and ninety-six had filled forms from the cantonments but 50 had not taken test exams while three abstained from the SLC exams.
The combatants knew about their results through SMS, internet and phone Friday night triggering celebrations inside the cantonments.
Apsara Simkhada, who had appeared in the exams just three days after giving birth to her baby, and five other new mothers passed the exams. Bhawani Gharti Magar has passed in first division while five others passed with second division. The mothers have expressed desire to pursue further education.
The passed combatants include one vice commander and four battalion commanders, according to the school. Commanders at the cantonments said the combatants who want to pursue higher education would be encouraged to do so.
"The cantonment won´t stop combatants from higher education. Those who want to study will get to pursue higher education. Everyone has the right to education," deputy commander at the cantonments Udaya Bahadur Chalaune told myrepublica.com.
The school said more than 600 combatants are preparing to appear in the next year´s SLC. "They have started SLC preparations after taking class eight exams this year," Dahal revealed. Meanwhile, District Education Officer of Chitwan Gopal Krishna Poudel expressed happiness at the success of the Maoist combatants.
CA member passes SLC
Meanwhile, Constituent Assembly (CA) Member Kamala Roka has also passed this year´s SLC. Roka, who was elected under the proportional system from the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) from Rukum, secured 470 marks appearing in the exams from Himalaya Higher Secondary School of Pwang, Rukum.
Roka, who is also a central committee member of the party, had joined the Maoist insurgency while studying in the 10th grade 15 years ago.
